Insulting a Teenager

Filed under: Uncategorized — audlife @ 9:01 pm

Do you know what is one of the most insulting things an adult can say to a teenager? That would be: “Wow you’re so young!” or “Aww you’re just a kid you aren’t mature enough to have experienced the world fully yet.” or “You seem so young! How old are you?”

There are many more ways to phrase this insult but I believe you get the idea. What is horribly insulting to a teenager is that you are calling them “young” and “immature”. I hate that, because it is in moments like these where I am talked down to, and I am not treated as an equal.

Usually when it happens to me, the person asks me how old I am, which is insulting itself generally unless said in the right context (as this goes with adults too). I usually ask “How old do you think I am?”

That usually stumps them, because they cannot answer without completely insulting me. If they say I am younger than I am, they KNOW they are insulting me. If they say I am older than I am, they are bull shitting because they just said I am so young. If they say my age correctly, they are saying my age is not mature.

While it may be true that  adults have many more years of experience of life than a teen, many times they rub that experience into a teen’s face. We teenagers are not innocent, we face horrible things that adults don’t have to worry about. Many of us are constantly making sure our clothes are just right, that our make–up looks perfect, that we are not dressed in a way that gives people the wrong I idea about who we are.

Teen face pressure of “what everyone else is doing” and “what people think of”. We also face nasty rumors and cruel people who are not at all polite.

Teens have opinions about life, about politics, about the government, we have our own opinions, but often they are not heard, because people think we are so “young”.

Dresses

Filed under: Uncategorized — audlife @ 10:31 pm

Dresses are awesome. I mean, they make a girl feel like royalty or a princess.

You know, women have always fought for their rights, and they have the right to (no pun intended). I believe however that many women like at some times to be the weaker one and have the man step up and be “a man” so to speak. Dresses and high heels to go with them make us feel dainty, weaker, more vulnerable. It is lovely :) .

The Pledge of Allegiance

Filed under: Uncategorized — audlife @ 12:08 pm

I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The Pledge of Allegiance. I, going to a public school, controlled by the government, have to stand up and say it every morning. I came from a school where I didn’t need to do that. I had a little trouble adjusting to it. I would say it, but I kept asking what I was pledgingto. The teachers wouldn’t tell me, my friends wouldn’t tell me. The thing was that none of them really knew what they were saying, they were just brainwashed into it. So I interpreted the pledge into a way that was a little less ancient.

I pledge my loyalty, to my country, called the United States of America. And to the government, who stands for this country, one country, devoted to God, not easily divided, with freedom and fairness to all.

Once I had done that, I realized exactly what I was saying every morning. I was saying that I stand behind the USA, it’s government, it’s philosophies, and God. The “Under God” bit was added later. Thats difficult for me because I don’t believe in “God”. I do believe that there is some kind of magic in this world, but there is no powerful ruler in the sky telling us what to do and claiming he loves us. I have no loyalty to that. But I do believe in our country, and I stand behind the government if they go along with what the constitution says.

The problem is, the government doesn’t. It doesn’t follow the constitution. Slowly, the constitution fades. Google the original Constitution. The rules to our country.

Theres all that bit about our government becoming fascist. Paranoid about terrorists, Bush gaining more and more power, more center in our society. Many government decisions are tied with religion (think “Under God”). Women are not seen as powerful individuals (Sexist government? Bush?). Of course, homosexuals are NOT accepted into a fascist society.

Anyway, back to the pledge, it was kind of a difficult decision for on whether to stand for the pledge, IO can to a consensus with myself. I now stand for the pledge, but take my hand of of my heart when the phrase, “Under God” is said. That could change however…

Beauty

Filed under: Opinions, Uncategorized — audlife @ 11:27 am

What is beauty? Beauty could be a name for something that gives a person a profound feeling. It could be a name, like in Beauty and the Beast! What is beauty anyways? I find it interesting that our society is so focused on beauty. There is also a mutual decision over the years about what beauty looks like.

According to society, beauty is…

  • Skinny
  • Fit
  • Stylish
  • Nicely formed face
  • No acne (clear skin)
  • Medium Height
  • Straight teeth
  • White teeth
  • Straight Hair
  • Full lips
  • Long lashes
  • Pierced Ears
  • Big Breasts
  •  Big “cucumbers”
  • Long Legs
  • Straightened toes
  • Pleasent voice

Now here’s the thing I don’t get… This is a huge list. There are not many people in this world who are and have most of the things on this list. So if this was beauty, there woulod be no beauty right?

Mexico

Filed under: Vacation! — audlife @ 8:39 pm

Currently, I am in Mexico! Soaking up the sun! Swimming! Shopping in Puerto Vallarta! I am having a lot of fun even though I didn’t want to go in the first place.

I wasn’t excited because I just got out of school, and flying on a plane and doing all the airport crapola was not something that immediately comes to mind as “fun”. But now that I am here it is not so bad, I am having fun.

One thing I have noticed is that when Americans say something in Spanish, and are able to say thank you, please, your welcome, etc, they are always so proud. When a Mexican says something in English, they always seem very proud. Kinda cool that way. :)

Anyways life is not so bad I guess.

Do You Respect?

Filed under: Opinions — audlife @ 11:12 pm

I believe that people should treat each other with respect and love no matter who they are. I think that people should be accepting of each other and never ever make comments that hurt others. Do You Agree?  If the answer is yes, please write it down now…  Now if you answered yes, then you must be a good enough person to respect other people’s decisions in life, and  accept whoever they really are. But with those questions, i would imagine that most people would say yes to all.But with all the homophobia in this nation, I sometimes doubt that. So many people don’t let people “dig their own graves” into hell if they are gay, but want to help them become “pure, good and natural”.I myself, am a strait ally (A strait person who supports gay rights), and I feel that it’s THEIR bussiness if they want to be gay, lesbeian, bi, or trans. I think it’s ok if someone thinks that being anything but strait is unnatural, but I also believe that they shouldn’t try to change other people’s opinions.I think that those in favor of gay rights should be allowed to protest for their rights, but shouldn’t tell all the homophobs  what to believe, because no one will win. I think that repect should be there, and if either side wants to learn about the other, great!I personally want everyone to have the right to live without fear or pain from being themself. If you are homophobic (meaning you are not repectful of gays lesbians, trans people or bi people) and you answered the first question yes, I think you need to do some thinking time. Talk to an “unnatural” person and ASK some questions, instead of TELLING them things. Just try that with an open mind.
